Royal Procession
On the day of a royal procession, as soon as the retainers and escort guards are ready to begin the procession, the King gets on the royal carriage waiting outside the palace gate followed by parade members, including a retainer carrying a parasol and another a fan for the King. The Hyeonmudae, or a unit of the escort guards follow in the rear of the procession. When the procession arrives near Hamabi, a marker instructing to dismount, in front of Jongmyo, the King gets off the royal carriage and rides a sedan chair to move to the temporary court in Jongmyo.
